Outing Ideas in Los Angeles for a Parenting Group

With its renowned museums, luxurious neighborhoods and landmark attractions, there is no shortage of things to do in Los Angeles. Since there are so many activities to choose from, selecting the perfect outing for your parenting group can be overwhelming. Los Angeles offers many indoor and outdoor spaces that are family-friendly and educational while providing unique experiences for parents and their little ones.

  1. Museums

    • Los Angeles is home to a plethora of world-class museums -- and many of them are kid-friendly. Admission is free at the California Science Center, which offers plenty of hands-on exhibits. The iconic Getty Center also has free admission, and provides a family art room and scenic grounds where parenting groups can easily gather. Los Angeles' Natural History Museum charges reasonable rates for children ages 4 through 12 and has interactive exhibits about mammals and dinosaurs -- including famous dinosaur dioramas. The Zimmer Museum has interactive exhibits geared toward younger children, making it a great place for parents of toddlers and preschoolers to gather.

    Library Fun

    • The branches of the Los Angeles Public Library offer plenty of free programs and events for children. Arrange for your parenting group to bring their kids to one of the many weekly story times. Branches offer bilingual story times, music and movement classes, and story times with finger plays, songs and stretches. Attend one of the free art classes hosted by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art at a different library branch each month. Other library events have included ice cream parties, movie days and puppet shows.

    Playgrounds

    • The majority of the playground equipment at Shane's Inspiration in Griffith Park is wheelchair accessible, making it an excellent outing for a parenting group that includes any children with disabilities. Roxbury Park in Beverly Hills has large children's playgrounds, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts and a soccer field. Groups of picnic tables may be reserved ahead of time for large groups. Rustic Canyon Park provides a multipurpose room that can be used as an indoor gym in the event of poor weather.

    Animal Adventures

    • The Wildlife Learning Center near Los Angeles International Airport is home to 50 different species of animals from around the world. Stroll with your parenting group along the landscaped paths as you take in the wildlife with your little ones, or arrange for a customized tour for your group. At the Los Angeles Zoo, your group can chat while the kids play at the Neil Papiano Play Park, which includes animal-themed climbing structures, water misters and a toddler area. Take your group to visit Muriel's Ranch -- a petting zoo of goats and sheep.
