What Are the Crafts for the 7 Habits of Happy Kids?
Parenting children is not always an easy task, they go through many stages that are difficult for parents to cope with. The good news is you are not alone in this pursuit, there are many different self-help books on the market, including 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey. If you have enjoyed the principles contained within the book, the following activities based on several of 7 habits may be helpful.
-
Proactive
-
How do you take the idea of being proactive and translate it into a craft? Start by considering the steps it takes to be proactive, stop, think and then choose a course of action. One simple craft that will work for children of all ages is to create a collage. With a pile of magazine and a bit of instruction children can stop to think about many things, for example the environment. Have them cut out images of what a perfect environment would look like and then cut out more images of how to do so. These could be pictures of individuals picking up litter or planting trees.
End in Mind and Synergize
-
Two more of the 7 habits are beginning with the end in mind and synergizing. An example of a craft that would fit both of these ideas is picture puzzle creation. Choose an age appropriate puzzle, glue for the back and perhaps a nice puzzle frame. Looking at the box will give them the end result to begin with and since you will likely need to help them along, synergy is created as well.
Win-Win
-
Creating a win-win situation can be challenging, especially when you consider that many children's activities are centered around sports or competition. Winning craft ideas for kids of many different ages is creating handmade cards to hand out at an assisted living or nursing facility. Construction paper, glue, glitter and markers are all you need to make the cards and a quick phone call to the facility can gain you permission to hand out the gifts. Children learn they can do fun activities that also bring a smile to the face of others, a win-win situation.
First things First
-
Children can be impatient so it is important to teach them that there are times when first things must come first if you want a good outcome. You might think this is a difficult concept to put into a craft but it really is not. Older children can learn this lesson by building a birdhouse or similar craft, if the steps are not completed in order they will have a mess on their hands. Younger children can learn the same idea with a dot-to-dot page, first the dots must be connected and then they may color the page.
