How to Write a Letter of Reference for the Nanny
Nannies help you by caring for your children when you are at work or busy and ensure your kids are happy and healthy when you can't be there. When your nanny needs to find a new employer, she may ask you to write a letter of reference. If the nanny has done a good job, a letter of reference from you will help her find a new position. Writing this letter properly and following the correct format is important.
Instructions
Type your letter. Begin with a paragraph introducing yourself. State who you are, how many children you have and what your nanny's schedule is like. If you want to highly recommend the nanny, begin your letter with something like "I am pleased and honored to recommend ..." State your general opinion of the nanny in the second paragraph. Include your nanny's strengths for a positive letter and weaknesses for a negative letter, and what your children's opinions of the nanny are. Write two to four paragraphs, each about a particular strength or weakness your nanny has. Include personal details and give examples from real life. Stories about your nanny's reliability or interactions with your children are a place to start. Close your letter with a paragraph or two summarizing your personal experience with your nanny. Share information such as how the nanny has impacted your children. End with your name and include your contact information. Sign your name in black pen below your printed name on the letter.
