Easy Way to Pull Out a Tooth

A first loose tooth can be an exciting time in any young child's life. Unfortunately, many will also not be receptive to the removal of the tooth. There is an easy way to remove a tooth from a child's mouth. It begins with telling the child the story of the tooth fairy, which will get the child excited for the bedtime ritual. As an added incentive, give the child a special box or bag to place the newly removed tooth that she can keep under her pillow for the tooth fairy.

Things You'll Need

  • Antibacterial soap
  • Ice cube or numbing medication
  • Gauze

Instructions

    • 1

Wait until the child's tooth is extremely loose. Ask the child to wiggle his tooth for you daily in order to check the progress of the tooth in question.

    • 2

Wash your hands with warm water and antibacterial soap. This will remove any germs and dirt on your hands that could end up in your child's mouth.

    • 3

Numb the area around the child's loose tooth with an ice cube or over-the-counter numbing medication, such as Anbesol.

    • 4

Place a small piece of gauze over the child's tooth and with your thumb and forefinger, gently wiggle and pull the tooth until it comes free.

    • 5

Inform your child to tip his head slightly forward and hold a piece of gauze over the exposed gum until the bleeding stops, which will take only a few minutes.

    • 6

Wash any blood off the tooth and let the child place it under her pillow.
