Cute Ways to Fix a Little Girl's Hair

How you style your daughter's hair determines whether the experience is enjoyable for both of you or a painful battle. Combs and rubber hair elastics that snag, as well as styles that pull hair too tight, can affect your daughter's enthusiasm for hairstyling. Regular washing, de-tangling spray and soft bristle brushes or wide-toothed combs can make styling her hair easy and largely pain free. Cute hairstyles aren't too challenging, but differ based on length and type of hair.

  1. Loop Bun

    • The loop bun is a fast and simple style that works best with fine and silky hair hair. Brush your daughter's entire head using a bristly brush to remove tangles instead of a painful fine-toothed comb. Pull her hair three to four inches above the nape of her neck and hold the position with your hand. Use a non-rubber hair elastic as if making a ponytail, but don't pull the last three to four inches of hair through the elastic. The result is an adorable loop of hair that won't tangle in the wind or fall down in 15 minutes.

    Triple Poof

    • Secure three poofs of hair using barrettes or non-rubber hair elastics. This style works well on coarse or thick, curly hair that's short. Part your daughter's hair down the side, then make a horizontal part approximately two inches above the nape of her neck. Secure each of the three sections into a ponytail poof using non-rubber hair elastics or sturdy barrettes.

    Braided Pigtails

    • For the tiny glamor queen who doesn't mind some extra primping, braided pigtails combine the security of two ponytails with the neatness of a braid. This style works well on girls with medium length hair of all textures. Part your daughter's hair down the middle and secure each side into a pigtail using a non-elastic hair tie. Divide each pigtail into parts A, B and C. Braid the pigtail by overlapping A with B and then B with C and repeat until only three inches of hair remains at the bottom. Secure the end with a hair elastic.

    Basic Headband

    • A simple, painless headband or hair band style is helpful for little girls who dislike the fuss and tightness of ponytails and braids. Choose the variety of headband based on her hair type and length. For example, a stiff, plastic headband with small "teeth" works well on little girls with fine, silky hair. Slide the ends of the headband behind her ears and push the arch a few inches above her hairline. Use a large, stretchy hair band for thick or coarse hair by pulling it down around her neck and then lifting the front half of the band up over her face, past her hairline and behind her ears.
