How to Create a Personalized Birthday Book

Creating a birthday book is a special way to commemorate your child's birthday. You can include whatever you like in the book, such as a series of pictures, notes about your child's personality or even stories from the year. You can make the book from scratch or you can use a blank book to decorate as you like. You can also create a book that you can add to year after year for each birthday.

Things You'll Need

  • Blank journal or scrapbook
  • 1/4 yard fabric
  • 1/4 yard quilt batting
  • Hot glue gun
  • Photos from the year
  • Construction paper or card stock
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Other decorative items, such as glitter, ribbon, pom-poms and stickers

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a small blank book, such as a journal or scrapbook. The pages should be unlined.

    • 2

Open the book and lay it on a piece of batting. Cut out a piece of batting the same size as the book, including the front and back cover and the spine.

    • 3

Cut a piece of fabric the same size as the batting, plus 1/2 inch on all sides.

    • 4

Glue a piece of batting to the front and back cover of the book with a hot glue gun.

    • 5

Lay the fabric on the table with the wrong side up, then lay the open book on top of it, with the batting between the two layers. Fold the fabric around the side of the book and glue it down on the inside of the cover. Tuck in the fabric around the corners and the spine.

    • 6

Cut two pieces of fabric the same size of the front and back covers, and glue the pieces to the inside of both covers.

    • 7

Write your child's name, birthday and the year on the first page of the book. Glue a current picture above the information.

    • 8

Glue pictures from throughout the year on each of the pages.

    • 9

Write in information about your child on each page of the book. Include details such as his current favorite color, food, cartoons, toys and hobbies. Note milestones that he reached, such as his first steps, his first day at preschool or his first day at Little League practice. Tell stories about significant things that happened, such as when he won the spelling bee or when he met his cousins at the family reunion. Include as many details as you would like to give a good sense of what the year was like and what your child was doing at this age.

    • 10

Decorate the book as you like. Include inspirational quotes, ribbons, stickers, glitter or anything else you would like to make the book look more special.
