With parents of young children comprising increasing numbers of today's college and university students, day care is becoming an important factor in college choice. More and more colleges now provide day care centers on their campuses in response to this trend.   1. Occidental College

    • Occidental College, a liberal arts undergraduate school in Los Angeles, California, provides a state-licensed child development center on its campus. The center is staffed with six teachers and is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The children of students, faculty members and employees of the college are eligible for placement. All children at the center get breakfast and lunch, along with an afternoon snack.

    Skidmore College

    • Skidmore College, a respected four-year liberal arts college in Saratoga Springs, New York, offers the Greenberg Child Care Center for the children of its faculty, students and employees. The center accepts children from 8 weeks to 5 years old and is licensed by the New State Office of Family and Children Services. The learning program is focused on education through play and the center believes in serving as a support system for families, rather than serving as surrogate parents. It is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

    Morton College

    • The second-oldest community college in Illinois according to the school's website, Morton College provides a child care center for its students and staff. The center offers two distinct programs: a day care center and a preschool. The day care center, which is open from 7:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on weekdays, charges $10 for registration and a fee of $3.75 per hour or $15 per day. The preschool program is free of charge and has a morning session and two afternoon sessions. The preschool is also open to the children of local citizens, subject to screening for eligibility.

    Olympic College

    • Olympic, a two-year community college serving Kitsap and Mason counties in the state of Washington, offers students and staff day care through its Child Development and Family Center. The program strives to provide a balanced curriculum tailored to each child's social, cognitive and physical skills. It also functions as a laboratory for Olympic College students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program. The center is open year-round except for national holidays and a two-week Christmas break.
