Since 1968 the Special Olympics has provided athletes with intellectual disabilities a year-round sports program that consists of athletic training and competition in Olympic-type events. Because the organization continues to grow, with the help of more than 44,000 dedicated volunteers in Texas alone, more volunteers are needed in just about every part of the organization. Depending upon the age bracket, a child can contribute her skills to help complete a project, including leading, planning and fundraising.
