What Are Some Fun Activities to Do With Children?
Steer children away from the television, video games and computer and get them out of the house to have some fun. Think about the fun things you used to enjoy as a child or try something totally new. The choices are plentiful, even if you̵7;re on a budget or the weather is cold and dreary.

Photo Scavenger Hunt
-
Create a list of things for your children to take pictures of. If they don̵7;t have access to a camera, purchase disposable cameras. Rank items with a point value; the hardest to capture are worth more points. Create a prize list with different totals equaling different prize levels. If you have more than one child, a fun rule could be that a child must be in each photograph. Examples of things that could go on the scavenger hunt are: the American flag, picket fence, a dog, tiger and state fruit. Kids can get creative. Pictures could be taken of billboards, signs, brochures or in a mall, not necessarily the real thing.
Free Workshops and Crafts
-
Many stores, such as home improvement centers and craft stores, have free workshops and craft time for kids, often on Saturday mornings. Kids can make small wooden crafts and photo scrapbook pages, for example. Take note of the events board sometimes appearing in the front of the store for a list of upcoming events. They also often appear online on the store̵7;s website.
Pick Your Own Farms
-
Even if you live in a metropolitan area, there may be a pick your own farm, also called u-pick farms, not too far away. For instance, pick strawberries in the spring, corn and squash in the summer and apples and pumpkins in the fall. Some farms also have other fun things to do, such as hay rides, corn mazes, apple cider demonstrations and a petting farm.
Other Fun Things To Do
-
Go to a laser tag or paintball facility, or if you have the land, rent gear and take it home to play. Go roller skating or bowling, or take a day each year to go to an amusement park. Catch a minor league baseball game, which is cheaper than a major league game. Race go-carts at a local go-cart facility or spend a weekend camping. Go fishing or crabbing or hike in a state park. On rainy or cold days, your city or town may have an indoor play center or children̵7;s museum.
