Homemade Presents From Preschoolers for Parents

A homemade present for Mom or Dad is the most precious gift a child can give and since preschoolers love to use their imagination and creativity, this gift is sure to be one of a kind. It's much more memorable than a store bought gift and gentler on the budget, too. A few crafting supplies and an excited little preschooler, and you're ready for the gift-making to begin!

  1. Photo Gifts

    • Your youngster already knows that he's the best gift of all, so help him incorporate a few pictures into a creative craft for the most perfect gift for Mom or Dad. You can help him transform a few pictures into coasters by gluing some of his favorites onto ordinary 4-inch tiles. Just attach the picture to the tile with polyvinyl acetate and add a second layer on top to seal in the picture. You can also help your preschooler make a picture frame from wooden craft sticks. Glue the sticks together to make the backing, glue a picture on top and create a border over top from more craft sticks. If it's too difficult to pick just one picture, choose a whole bunch and create a beautiful collage on a poster board backing to hang on the wall.

    Hand Print & Footprint Gifts

    • Mom or Dad will cherish these precious keepsake gifts for a lifetime. A hand print or footprint ornament is simple to make. Just trace around your child's hand or foot on a piece of card stock and cut out the shape. Have your child decorate with paint or crayons and poke a ribbon loop through the top. Help your child make a special mug decorated in hand prints and morning coffee will never be the same and Dad will beam with pride when he shows off his brand new T-shirt decorated in tiny hand and footprints. Your child can create hand print borders on tea towels for the kitchen or make magnets from poster board cutouts of his hand or footprints. Just color them with markers or crayons and glue a magnet on the back.

    Floral Gifts

    • You don't need a gardener in the family to have a house full of beautiful flowers. Help your preschooler make tissue paper flowers to fill every vase in the home or fill a hand decorated flower pot with the flowers instead. If your child is learning all about shapes, help him say ̶0;I love you" with a foam shape bouquet. Just cut out shapes from colored craft foam, have him decorate the shapes and glue them onto wooden craft sticks. He can turn the bouquet into a gift from the heart and use heart-shaped foam cutouts instead. For flowers that are even more special, glue a tiny photo of your child to the center of each one.

    Goodies

    • Sometimes nothing says ̶0;I love you" like a special home baked treat. You can help your youngster make a batch of sugar cookies cut into Mom or Dad's favorite shapes. Make a batch of makeup-shaped cookies but skip the ordinary cookie tin; line a makeup box with waxed paper and place the cookies in here instead. If Dad loves to fish, help your child cut the cookies into fish shapes, line a tackle box with waxed paper and toss the tasty bait inside. To make these cookies extra special and loaded with sugar, decorate them with icing and colored sugars before placing them in the box, or place a heart-shaped stencil on top of each one and sprinkle some icing sugar on top.
