How to Make Coasters With Kids
Coaster crafts, in addition to occupying children and encouraging artistic talents, result in useful home accents with a homemade touch. Inspire kids to get creative with simple items, and make coasters for your home or to give as gifts. A coat of water-based sealer will keep coasters looking new and your surfaces condensation-free.
Things You'll Need
- Newspaper
- Wooden circles
- Craft paint
- Paintbrushes
- Clear water-based sealer
- Thin corkboard
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
Instructions
Prepare a work surface with newspaper. Set out the wooden circles and paint with brushes or let the kids finger paint on the wood. Encourage kids to paint pictures, names, designs, patterns or sayings onto the wooden circles. Allow the paint to air dry completely. Paint a coat of clear water-based sealer over the painted coasters and allow it to dry completely, according to the package instructions. Overnight is typically sufficient. Trace the wooden circles onto a piece of corkboard and then cut the circles out, making them slightly smaller than the wooden circles. These will be the skid-resistant coaster bases. Glue the cork bottoms onto the coasters with a hot glue gun. Wait a few seconds for the glue to dry before setting down the coasters.
