Diaper Bag Checklist for Essentials

Packing a diaper bag is a process that becomes easier as your parental experience increases. For new parents, though, it can be a daunting task to assess what to take and what to leave behind when traveling with your baby. The specifics of what you pack vary according to the age of your child, but there are some basic guidelines that can help you get started packing your bag.

  1. Diapers and Wipes

    • Diapers and wipes are two of the most basic items to be placed in a diaper bag. Depending on how far you are going and how long you will be away from the house, three to four diapers is generally a good amount to bring along. Many companies offer travel-size packets of wipes, but you can also take eight to 10 from your package at home and place them inside a zippered sandwich bag for travel.

Also, depending on the season, you should bring along a sweater or jacket for the baby, in case there is a change in weather.

    Feeding Supplies

    • Unless you are breastfeeding, you will need to bring one or two bottles (with formula and water) to coincide with scheduled feeding times that occur while you are away from home. Also, pack a burp cloth and bib for feeding.

    Soothers

Also, if your little one has favorite belongings such as a toy or stuffed animal that will fit into your bag, consider bringing these along. Comforting items from home can help soothe, distract and quiet your baby when out in public or in the car.

    Plastic Bags

    • Bring along plastic bags to hold dirty diapers or soiled clothing. You'll want to avoid inserting these items directly into the diaper bag, spreading germs and bacteria to the other items that you have packed.

    • If you are a new parent, packing your babys diaper bag can be somewhat overwhelming. You will often be tempted to overpack out of fear of forgetting something. It helps to remember that your diaper bag is like a traveling nursery; it should contain e
