When Can an Infant Return to Daycare After RSV?
RSV, or respiratory syncytial virus, causes cold symptoms but can lead to breathing problems in some sufferers. According to the Mayo Clinic, most children have been infected by RSV by the time they are 2 years old. Parents need to know when they can safely return their affected babies to daycare.

Normal Behavior
-
Once your child starts eating and playing normally, you can begin planning to return her to daycare. Because the virus can be found everywhere, your child will not be any greater threat to the other children even if she still has some mild symptoms.
Risk of Complications Passed
-
If your child is at higher risk for RSV complications, you should wait several days following the onset of infection before returning him to daycare. According to Seattle's Children Hospital, about 125,000 children each year are hospitalized with breathing complications from the virus.
Permission from Daycare
-
The daycare may have specific requirements for readmission for a sick child. For example, your child may need to be fever free for 24 hours or may need a note from a doctor.
