How to Use a Sound Machine to Put a Baby to Sleep
When you̵7;ve got a tired baby fighting sleep, or one who has difficulty staying asleep long enough to get sufficient rest, you may have a fussy and unhappy child. Because a sleep-deprived baby is often a challenge to care for, you may grab onto any solution, regardless of how unusual it sounds. White noise may be something you tend to overlook or ignore, but it may be just the trick to send your baby off to dream land. Use a sound machine to help your baby sleep with white noise.
Instructions
Place the sound machine near enough to your baby to enable him to hear and possibly even feel vibrations from the noise ̵1; slightly touching the crib might be ideal, suggests Dr. Cathryn Tobin, author of ̶0;The Lull-a-Baby Sleep Plan.̶1; Position the white noise machine and its cord out of reach of the baby. Tuck your baby into bed when you see sleep cues ̵1; rubbing eyes, yawning, avoiding eye contact and fussing. Turn the sound machine on to white noise. Set the volume to a low position to begin with, to determine how baby reacts. Adjust the volume level until your baby calms and stops crying. The volume level might seem too loud for sleeping to you, but this is suitable for helping a baby sleep. Turn the white noise machine off when your baby wakes. Run the white noise machine every time your baby needs to sleep, during the day and at night. Previous:How to Test a Crib
