How to Change a Crib Mattress
If you've ever tried to change the sheet on a crib mattress, you'll know that it's like trying to fit a shower cap over a ceiling fan. The bad news is, if you have a bumper on your baby's crib, changing the sheet will never be as easy as you want it to be. The good news is, it doesn't have to entail removing the entire bumper, wrestling the sheet on while hanging over the crib railing, or tearing the hem of the sheet in the process.
Things You'll Need
- Crib with mattress
- Fitted crib sheet
Instructions
Without a Bumper
Slide your fingers between the crib rails and the mattress, grasping the side of the mattress firmly. Pull the entire mattress out of the crib, and stand it up vertically. Find a short edge of the crib sheet and stretch it over the top of the mattress so that the corners of the sheet fit over the corners of the mattress. Pull the rest of the crib sheet over the face of the mattress, and tuck the two remaining sides of the sheet over the two remaining sides of the mattress. You may want to do this while flipping the mattress, since it will be easier to reach the bottom two corners. Hold the mattress over the crib so that the sides match up, and slide it back into the crib. With a Bumper
Untie the knots along one side of the bumper, and push that bumper section to the side so that you can access the mattress. Remove the mattress, change the sheet, and replace it, as described in the previous section. Retie the bumper and make sure that it is secured to the side of the crib.
