How to Treat Lice on Babies
Head lice are tiny insects that live on people's heads and bodies. They are most commonly spread by person-to-person contact. While lice are not dangerous and they don't spread disease, they are contagious and can make your scalp itch. Lice can affect people of all ages, including babies. With the proper steps, you can get rid of the lice on your baby's scalp in two weeks.
Things You'll Need
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Comb (fine-tooth)
- Fresh Facial Tissue
- Magnifying Glass
Instructions
Wash your baby's hair with shampoo and conditioner. Wetting the hair momentarily immobilizes the head lice making it easier for you to find them. Using conditioner will make it less of a hassle to run a comb through his hair. Use regular shampoos and conditioners because medicated head lice shampoos are not safe to use on children under 2. Comb your baby's hair. After each pass of the comb, wipe it clean with a fresh facial tissue and examine it for lice. Use a magnifying glass since lice can be very difficult to spot. Repeat steps one and two every three to four days for two weeks until the last lice and nits have been seen. If your baby still has lice after two weeks, consult with your doctor. Check behind your baby's neck and ears. Lice and nits are commonly found on the scalp but can also be found on the back of the neck and behind the ears.
