How to Add Cereal to Formula
Rice cereal is typically the first food a baby eats because it's easy to digest and doesn't usually irritate his or her stomach. Because introducing rice cereal as the first solid is a big change for your baby, you need to make sure you create a good experience, starting with properly mixing the rice cereal.
Things You'll Need
- Infant formula
- Baby bottle
- Baby bowl
- Rice cereal
- Spoon
Instructions
Fill a baby bottle with water and add the appropriate amount of powdered formula for the ounces of water as described on the formula can's instructions. Shake the bottle until the powder is completely mixed in with the water. Place a couple spoonfuls of rice cereal into a baby bowl. Slowly pour in formula and stir with a spoon until you reach the desired consistency. For a first feeding you want a very liquid consistency. Scoop a spoonful of the mixture onto a baby spoon and feed to baby. He or she might have trouble getting used to eating off a spoon but with practice your baby will master the new skill.
