How to Wear Your Baby in a Ring Sling

Knowing how to wear your baby in a ring sling is the difference between your baby being injured and not being injured. Several injuries can result from slings, according to Consumer Reports. Many of these injuries happen because the baby falls out of the sling and then bangs his head. There is also a danger of asphyxia, which happens when the baby is positioned in such a way that the head is pushed too far forward causing the airway to be cut off.

Instructions

  1. Newborn to 6 Months

    • 1

Put the ring sling over your shoulder with the ring at the top front of your shoulder. It does not matter which side you choose to put the ring on, but you will need to make sure your baby's head is on the same side as the ring.

    • 2

Make a pouch from the material at the front of your body.

    • 3

Pick up your baby and hold her to your shoulder with arm.

    • 4

Hold the pouch you created open with your hand.

    • 5

Lower your baby sideways into the pouch. You want his head to be close to the ring and he should be lying across the front of your body. Your baby might curl into a fetal position with his knees up by his chin. Be sure to check that his head is not positioned too far forward as this can cut off his airway.

    • 6

Pull on the front of the tail part of the sling to tighten the pouch. If the pouch is too deep, pull on the middle of the tail to make it more shallow.

    • 10

Put your toddler's backside in the pouch and make sure his knees are higher than his backside.

    • 11

Tighten the pouch by pulling on the front of the tail part of the sling.
