How to Use Natural Remedies to Ease Teething Pain
Some babies make it through the teething stage without a single cry or whine from aching gums, while others are on the opposite end of the spectrum, letting you know about their discomfort with clinginess, sleeplessness and more than a few tears. You can help to soothe your teething youngster̵7;s aching gums with a variety of simple, natural solutions. He̵7;ll have a smile on his face and be back to his happy explorations in no time at all.
Things You'll Need
- Washcloth
- Sealable bag
- Teether
- Lavender baby bath
- Baby applesauce, pears or yogurt
Instructions
Dampen a clean washcloth and place it in a sealable plastic bag. Place the bag in the fridge for an hour or in the freezer for approximately 20 to 30 minutes. The cloth should be very cold but not frozen when you remove it from the freezer. Remove the washcloth from the bag and let your youngster chomp down on the cloth to massage and numb his gums. Place a teether in the fridge for an hour or two and then let your baby massage her sore gums with the toy. Do not freeze the teething ring because it will be too cold for your baby; the firmness of the frozen teether can damage her gums. If she doesn̵7;t like a cold teether, allow it to warm up to room temperature and try again. The pressure of the teether against her gums can help to soothe the pain. Wash and dry your finger. Ensure your nails are neatly trimmed with no jagged edges. Rub a finger along your baby's gums. You can press down firmly enough for your finger to start making a squeaky sound against her gums; it might make him giggle to hear the silly sounds. Breastfeed your baby. The sucking motion and the skin-to-skin contact between Mom and baby can help to relieve pain, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Distract your baby with a relaxing bath, if she likes the water. You can add a little lavender baby bath or let the warm water help her to relax and hopefully forget about her teething troubles. Give your baby a spoonful of baby applesauce, pears or yogurt from the fridge to cool and soothe his gums, if he has begun eating solid foods.
