Baby Hand & Footprint Ideas

Because babies grow up so fast, parents often try to find ways to reclaim the fleeting days of babyhood and look back on how tiny their precious little ones once were. Handprints and footprints are very real reminders of exactly how small their babies used to be, making them common symbols of youth. There are lots of ways prints can be captured, displayed and even used to keep as a memory or give to someone special as a present.

  1. Framed Prints

    • Frame baby&'s prints to show off on a wall or give as a present to proud grandparents. Press the baby&'s hands or feet in paint or ink and press onto a canvas or cardstock. Frame the prints with a strong, thick frame.

    Ceramic Tile Stepping Stone Prints

    • Make ceramic stepping stones for the backyard or garden entryway using the baby&'s footprints. Make a stepping stone for each foot. Leave space for more stones and continue to make these with your child&'s footprints through the years so you can track his growth by walking over the stones. Carve the date into the bottom of the clay or ceramic before it dries to keep track of the child&'s age.

    Handprint/Footprint Cards

    • Make personalized handprint and footprint cards. Cut a piece of cardstock in half and then fold in half. Rub the baby&'s hand or foot in ink or paint and press onto the cardstock. Use as thank-you cards from the baby or just to send "I love you" and "I miss you" messages to close family and friends.

    Ornaments

    • Make ornaments to hang from the Christmas tree to commemorate baby&'s first Christmas. These can be shaped any way you like out of clay or plaster. After pressing the baby&'s print into the material, all you need to do is punch a hole, let dry and then insert a ribbon in the hole to create a loop hanger.

    Handprint Banner

    • Make a banner out of baby handprints. This is a cute decoration for a first birthday party or post-birth baby shower. Cut out several 5 or 6-inch wide circles of construction paper or cardstock. String together with ribbon and stamp the baby&'s hand onto each circle of paper with ink or paint.
