November Lesson Plans for Pre-Toddlers
Pre-toddlers are just beginning to fall into a regular schedule and can begin to follow a very simple, basic lesson plan. When you develop lesson plans for pre-toddlers, keep in mind that the lessons should be flexible and varied according to the pre-toddler's interest and developmental level. You should include aspects of play, pre-language development and music in these plans. For November lesson plans, you can also include activities that are appropriate for the season.

November Songs
-
Pre-toddlers are not old enough to learn and repeat songs, but they do enjoy listening to music and watching singing. A November lesson plan for pre-toddlers should include songs. Age appropriate, simple Thanksgiving songs might include "Turkey dinner, turkey dinner/ pumpkin pie, three miles high!/We were all much thinner/ before we came to dinner/ me oh my, me oh my!," sung to the tune of "Three Blind Mice." Pre-toddlers also enjoy hearing silly Thanksgiving rhymes like "The turkey is a funny bird, his head goes wibble wibble wobble. He only knows a single word... gobble, gobble gobble."
November Arts and Crafts
-
Some pre-toddlers are ready for simple fingerpainting, while others are not be able to do arts and crafts on their own. In either case, a pre-toddler lesson plan should involve some art projects. The teacher can paint each pre-toddler's finger a different color and the palm of their hand brown before placing the hand on a piece of paper to make hand print turkeys. Pre-toddlers can also finger paint toilet paper tubes that the instructor can turn into Native American rattles.
November Play
-
Free play is an important component of any pre-toddler lesson plan. Pre-toddlers do not have the attention span for extended circle time, and they learn mostly via free-exploration. Pre-toddlers can be given turkey feathers to play with for a Thanksgiving themed sensory experience, or autumn leaves for a fall themed experience. Plastic versions of Thanksgiving foods can be included in the kitchen play area and teachers can talk to pre-toddlers about the different foods we eat at Thanksgiving.
November Stories
-
Even pre-toddlers enjoy having books read to them or being told flannel board stories. Use a flannel board to tell the story of Thanksgiving or show and sing the songs "Ten Little Indians" or "Ten Little Pilgrims." You can also use flannel feathers to talk about colors while placing each one on a flannel turkey for your flannel board activity. Pre-toddlers will also enjoy simple Thanksgving board books that they can touch and feel, such as "Five Silly Turkeys" by Salina Yoon.
