How to Play With a Baby

When babies are newborns and infants, it seems all they do is eat, sleep and poop. However, there are many ways to play with a baby that they enjoy. Many forms of play also help babies develop skills they will use in the future. Beyond that, playing with a baby builds a bond.

      Turn on music. Keep it soft and gentle, as to not overstimulate the baby. Not only do babies like listening to music, but also movement. Slow dance to the music and keep baby close for a bonding experience.

      Talk to baby. Babies loved to be talked to. Many language skills are built just from listening to talk. While they can't talk yet, simply hearing language helps develop their language.

      Get moving. Taking a baby for a stroll is a great way to play with a baby. When baby is young, a stroller is the way to go. However, once she can hold her head up, an outward facing carrier is a great choice. Baby can see the world and stay close.

      Take a bath. Babies love water. Keep the water lukewarm, and wash the baby in a relaxing way. Afterwards, consider giving baby a massage with baby oil. Babies love one-on-one time, and this is a great way to accomplish it.

      Make the environment fun to look at. Remember to look at it from her level. Babies love black and white, and as they get older they are drawn to primary and other bright colors.
