Ocean Birthday Themes for Infants

The beauty of the ocean atmosphere can be used as inspiration for your infant's milestone first birthday celebration. Though he won't be able to remember his first birthday, make his day a memorable experience for your party guests with an exciting ocean theme. There are several different types of themes you can choose from with images of the sea in mind.

  1. "Finding Nemo"

    • The popular Disney sea character, Nemo, may be fascinating to your infant, with the clown fish's bright orange color and bold white stripes. Incorporate Nemo into every aspect of the birthday party celebration. For invitations, cut fish shapes from orange construction paper and paste white stripes on top. Write the party details on the reverse side. Adorn the party room with an orange-and-blue color scheme and under-the-sea decorations. Serve fish sticks and goldfish crackers to fit with your theme. Play the movie's soundtrack in the background and let the littlest party guests wiggle to the music.

    Mermaid's Cove

    • A mermaid theme allows your little girl to spend her first birthday as an underwater princess. Dress her in a mermaid costume, capture the moment with your digital camera and send out photo invitations. The wording on the front can read: "Come 'sea' our little mermaid and help celebrate her first birthday." Hang jellyfish and mermaid decorations from the ceiling. Pink, green and blue is a fitting color scheme for this theme. Prepare seashell-shaped sandwiches with cookie cutters and blue applesauce. Blow some bubbles as party entertainment. The babies and toddlers will enjoy attempting to pop them.

    Beach Party

    • The beach atmosphere can be re-created in your own backyard for your little one's birthday party. Create invitations that resemble sunglasses from construction paper, and write the party details on the lens. Inform parents to bring swimsuits and towels for their kids. Decorate your yard with beach umbrellas, beach towels, stuffed sea animals and seashells. Bright red, blue and yellow decorations coordinate with this theme. Serve cooked pasta spirals to resemble seashells and decorate some beach ball cookies. As party activities, let parents hold their children under a sprinkler for a few minutes or set up a sandbox for the tiny tots to play in.

    Nautical Sailor

    • Invite everyone to come along as your little one sets sail to celebrate his first birthday. Use a stencil to draw an anchor and cut it out. Print the party details inside a piece of folded card stock and paste the anchor on the front of the card. Adorn the party room with stripes and red-white-and-blue streamers for a patriotic vibe. Place toy boats on the table as centerpieces. Include ship-shaped finger sandwiches with little flags to represent boats as part of the party's menu. Set up a costume station with an oceanic backdrop and let every infant dress in sailor gear for an adorable photo op.
