How to Take Good Baby Pictures
Most parents have tons of candid photos of their baby in day-to-day situations such as taking a bath, playing with toys and sleeping. Every once in awhile, however, most parents want something a little more special. With advance planning, flexibility and a good dose of patience, you can take your own photographs that would rival any professional photographer but for only fraction of the cost.
Instructions
Keep your camera handy at all times, the New York Institute of Photography suggests. You'll be able to capture special moments in your baby's life, especially the day-to-day events that you don't want to forget and the many firsts that your baby experiences during her first year of life. Time your photograph session right. Don't attempt to get a good picture of your little one right before her nap or right before the time she normally eats. Instead, plan to take your photos shortly after she wakes up and when her belly is full. Take your photos up close. Instead of zooming your camera, get up close to your baby's face when snapping the photo, suggests Me Ra Koh, author of "Your Baby in Pictures." Find the right angle, the Digital Photography School website recommends. Get down to her level. If she's playing on the floor, lie down on your stomach and snap a few shots from that level. You'll get more authentic images this way. Keep the background of posed pictures simple, suggests Anne Geddes, famous photographer writing for the Baby Center website. A simple background will let your baby "take center stage." Take several shots of the same pose or event. You can review all the photos later and choose the one that captures the moment in the way you were hoping. Snap plenty of candid shots of your baby. Candid shots are often the best images of your baby, because they capture her personality. Include family members in photos of your baby. Snap pictures of your little one with mom, dad, siblings, grandma and grandpa. As your baby gets older, she'll enjoy seeing what she looked like when she was born and seeing images of people important in her life. Play with photo programs. These allow you to change an image to black and white or to remove red eye from your baby's image, for example. They are also helpful for storing them on your computer in certain ways. You'll also be able to share your saved images with loved ones via social media and personal blogs.
