How to Use the Wet Pail Method for Cloth Diapers
Cloth diapers come in many different forms and sizes to accommodate everyone's needs. This versatility extends into dirty diaper storage. One method of storing cloth diapers after they are soiled and before they go in the washer is the wet pail method. The wet pail method soaks your diapers before they go in the wash and can reduce or eliminate stains.
Things You'll Need
- Large pail or bucket with a sealable lid
- Vinegar or baking soda
Instructions
Fill your diaper pail about 1/4 of the way full with water. Add 1/2 cup of vinegar or baking soda to the water to act as a deodorizer. Shake the solids off the dirty diaper into the toilet. Remove the lid and toss the soiled diaper into the pail. Replace the lid immediately to prevent accidental drowning. Remove your diapers from the pail and put them in the washer. Be sure to unroll your diapers to ensure a more thorough cleaning. Avoid going any longer than two to three days between laundering your cloth diapers to reduce the risk of mildew forming. Run a spin cycle to get the excess water out of the diapers. Run them through a regular wash cycle using laundry soap that is free from dyes, scents and other additives that are detrimental to cloth diapers. Wash your diaper pail out with hot, soapy water between uses. Previous:How to Wash Cloth Diapers at Home
