San Antonio Attractions for Toddlers

For parents of toddlers, not much is more satisfying than seeing those little faces light up in excitement as they learn and experience new things. The city of San Antonio, Texas has a variety of toddler-friendly attractions that will hold kids' interest. From dolphins to dinosaurs, San Antonio is a great destination for families traveling with toddlers.

  1. SeaWorld San Antonio

    • Toddlers will love SeaWorld San Antonio. Little ones can splash and climb in Shamu's Happy Harbor, a centrally-located play area featuring a water play area, a sand box, playground equipment and a replica of a sailing ship. Children will enjoy getting up close to the friendly dolphins in Dolphin Cove; feeding the seals, sea lions and otters from all over the world in the Seal and Sea Lion Community; and riding on the 120-foot moving walkway through the Penguin Encounter, seeing hundreds of penguins, arctic sea birds, and real snowfall along the way.     San Antonio Children's Museum

    • The San Antonio Children's Museum offers more than 21 interactive exhibits for kids ages one to 10. Toddlers will especially enjoy the Hill Country Bubble Ranch, where they can make all kinds of bubbles, from very tiny to big enough to stand in; the Okie Dokie Kiddie Corral, complete with a hen house for egg gathering and a life-size cow for milking; and the Children's Art Pavilion, loaded with art supplies and ideas for art projects. The Tot Spot play area is just for kids up to three-years-old, and offers a Sensory Zone full of objects for toddlers to touch, feel, and smell, a Gross Motor Zone to help build toddlers' motor skills, and a Music Zone full of instruments for toddlers to try. The museum also offers weekly toddler storytimes and music and movement hours, as well as classes for kids from infants to age 10.

    Witte Museum

    • From T-Rex to Triceratops, toddlers love dinosaurs--and the Witte Museum has them. With scale models, fossils, dinosaur teeth and full-size footprints, toddlers will be awed by the Witte's Dino Hall exhibit. Children will also enjoy the H-E-B Science Treehouse, a four-story "treehouse" featuring a play area just for toddlers, interactive exhibits, hands-on science experiments and a water play area.

    • The Institute of Texan Cultures offers a glimpse into the many cultural faces of the Lone Star State, with special exhibits and programs just for kids. The Bluebonnet Puppet Show is a live program featuring puppets and music. Each show has a unique message about Texas's cultural history and diversity. Shows include topics like Andy's Secret Code, an exploration of cattle branding, and Magda's Tortillas, the story of a young girl learning how to make her grandma's tortillas.
