Activities for Toddlers in Singapore

Singapore is a country in east Asia with a population of 5.5 million, and about 15 percent of its residents are children. Although the country has had a low birth rate during the past few years, according to a 2012 article at AsiaNews.it, public sentiment is in favor of changing that. Singapore welcomes toddlers, whether home-grown or tourists, to its many family-friendly venues such as playgrounds, parks and beaches.

  1. Animal Activities

    • The Singapore Zoo is home to 2,800 free-ranging animals including lions, kangaroos, baboons and pigmy hippos. Toddlers will enjoy the animal shows and the Rainforest Kidzworld, where they can play in the water, pet farm animals and ride a carousel. If the little ones get tired, no worries -- you can rent a stroller or wagon or ride the tram. Underwater World is an aquarium where children can see species of ocean animals, including sharks, rays and sea dragons. Performing pink dolphins and fur seals can delight even the smallest visitors, as does the opportunity to watch these creatures being fed at scheduled times throughout the day.

    Parks and Nature

    • East Coast Park is one of Singapore's most popular places for families to enjoy a day outside, attracting 7.5 million visitors a year. Toddlers can have fun splashing in the ocean and building sandcastles, while families enjoy a picnic, barbecue or food purchased from the park's many vendors and restaurants. At the Singapore Botanic Gardens, little ones can take in the many beautiful trees, plants and flowers. There's even a special place just for them -- the Jacob Ballas Children's Garden -- where they can learn as they play.

    Water Fun

    • The Port of Lost Wonder, at Palawan Beach, is a special beach club just for kids. Little ones can play on a pirate ship, check out little animals and plants on Curiosity Island, or just wander and explore the Hatch Patch. At VivoCity, you can combine a shopping trip with some family fun at two water-themed play areas. On Level 2, an open-air playground has several interactive water features, and on the rooftop, you'll find Sky Park, featuring its giant rooftop wading pool.

    Indoor Play

    • When the weather is too wet or cold for outdoor play, don't despair -- indoor play areas allow your wee ones a safe place to run, jump and play while you sit and relax. At Go-Go Bambini, the four story jungle-themed play structure features ball pits, tunnels and interactive panels, all designed and maintained to meet strict safety standards. Parents can enter the playscape with their kids, or relax in the cafe with a cup of coffee and a book or newspaper. Fidgets is another indoor play area with three locations, and separate play areas just for toddlers. Art, craft and baking activities are offered for older siblings, and admission for parents is free.
