ADHD Symptoms in Toddlers

Parents of young children know that toddlers are notoriously difficult to keep up with. They're always running, exploring and learning. However, some toddlers have difficulty finding the "off switch" that allows them to sit quietly to eat, play or even sleep. These youngsters may be showing signs of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD. Though there is no single diagnostic test to prove the presence of ADHD, parents who suspect their child is showing symptoms should have him evaluated by their pediatrician, since behavior therapy and medication may help to calm their child.

    Sleep Disturbances

    • A youngster with ADHD may have trouble falling asleep and may wake frequently during the night.

    Excessive Crying

    • Parents with children with ADHD may find that their child not only cries more than other children their age, but also are difficult to soothe or calm.
