How to Potty Train a Two-Year-Old
When your baby turns two, it's amazing how quickly she sheds so much of her babyhood in the quest for independence. Potty training is no exception. There's no rush to getting a toddler potty trained ---in fact, it's smarter to let the toddler come to it when he becomes naturally interested. If you're noticing that your 2-year-old has begun to let you know when her diaper is wet, and is aware of it before it happens, you can start her on her journey to the potty.
Things You'll Need
- Child-sized potty
- Toddler
Instructions
Set up a child-sized potty in the bathroom. Show your baby her own special potty and tell her when she has to go pee pee, she can come and sit on the potty "just like Mommy (or Daddy)." Leave the diaper off of your baby when she's playing at home. She may have an accident or two, but soon she'll feel that bladder pressure and say "pee pee coming" or something of that nature. Act excited when she tells you, and race her to the potty, saying "let's go pee pee on the potty!" Sit her down and say "Let's hear the pee pee sound!" And then listen while she goes to the bathroom. She may not be able to do it, but if she does, praise her happily and give her hugs and kisses.
