How to Get a Toddler to Pee Straight
When your toddler first starts the potty training venture, you may have had high hopes for a quick transition from diapers to big boy undies. As this process unfolds, however, you may notice that your little guy gets more urine on the floor and walls than in the toilet. To help your kiddo pee straight, add a few new features to potty time. You̵7;ll be glad you did, when you can walk into the bathroom without getting your socks urine-soaked.
Things You'll Need
- Cereal
- Dish soap
- Stickers and sticker chart
Instructions
Ask his dad, big brother or another male relative to demonstrate how to urinate into the toilet properly, if they feel comfortable doing so. Your toddler will learn a lot from observation. Give him some potty-time target practice. Drop a few pieces of cereal into the toilet bowl for him to aim at. This makes going potty fun and he may actually get more urine into the toilet. Drop a few drops of dish soap into the toilet bowl before he goes potty. As he aims his pee into the toilet water, he will make bubbles. The more he aims, the more bubbles he will get. Dish out the praise, hugs, kisses and the happy potty dances, when he actually gets it in the toilet -- or, at least gives it a good try. This helps increase his self-esteem and confidence. He will also be more likely to keep trying,if he knows he̵7;s doing a good job. Offer some incentive. Make a sticker chart and offer your child a sticker every time he gets all or most of the urine into the toilet. After a certain number of stickers are on the chart, give him a bigger prize, like a toy car or new book.
