Making a Potty Training Sticker Chart

Potty training your toddler takes time, patience and persistence. To track your child̵7;s successes in this venture, create a potty training sticker chart. You̵7;ll be amazed at how well stickers, praise and encouragement keeps your young one motivated and interested until he̵7;s running around in big kid undies.

Things You'll Need

  • Poster board
  • Washable markers
  • Ruler
  • Stickers
  • Tape, thumbtacks or magnets

Instructions

    • 1

Set your poster board on the table and grab a marker. Make several horizontal lines across the board, roughly one inch apart. On the top of the board, write a label, such as ̶0;Jimmy̵7;s Potty Chart.̶1; This gives him a sense of ownership. If you want to let your little guy in on the chart-making process, leave a 1- to 2-inch boarder around the edges of the poster board and allow your toddler to decorate in that area with washable markers.

    • 2

Hang the potty chart somewhere that your child can see and reach, like his bedroom door or on the refrigerator. Use tape, thumbtacks or magnets to keep it in place.

    • 3

Put together a collection of stickers. Include stars and any character stickers that your child may like. Letting him pick the stickers out can make this chart even more exciting and motivating. Place the stickers in a resealable plastic bag or small storage container and out of your child̵7;s reach.

    • 4

Offer your toddler one sticker for pee and two for poop. Let him pick out the sticker and place it on the potty chart. If you are working toward a bigger prize with the stickers, such as five stickers for 10 extra minutes of reading time with Mommy, encourage him to place the stickers in a row. Work on filling one row at a time.
