  1. Sports

    • Encourage your teenager to improve her sports skills at a summer camp. The Rockford Park District offers volleyball camps in the summertime and throughout the year. The four-day camps are open to teens up to age 15. The Rockford All-Star Camp is a basketball camp open to kids ages 7 to 17. The week-long day camp takes place at Jefferson High School and runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    Camp Winnebago

    • The YMCA of Rock River Valley hosts summer camps at Camp Winnebago in Rockford. The Leaders in Training Camp is open to teenagers up to age 14. Campers will learn leadership skills and take part in team-building and traditional camp activities. The apprentice counselor program is open to teenagers ages 14 to 15. The program participants assist counselors with younger campers at Camp Winnebago for six weeks during the summer. A week-long training course is required prior to participating in the program.

    Rockford Parks District Camps

    • The Rockford Parks District hosts a variety of camps including Atwood Overnight Camp, Teen Links Camp and Teen Time Camp. Atwood Overnight Camp is open to youth ages 16 to 21. The overnight camp offers activities such as fishing, crafts, nature programs and sports. Teen Links Camp is open to youth ages 12 to 16 and Teen Time Camp is open to young adults ages 17 to 21. The day camps teach participants social and daily living skills. Each week focuses on a new activity so teens are introduced to a wide variety of recreational opportunities.

    Art Camps

    • Art camps in Rockford are offered for young teens in the summertime who love to draw, sing, dance or have an interest in the arts. The Rockford Area Arts Council hosts a summer camp for children up to age 13. Campers participate in three art-themed camps they choose and put on a performance at the end of the camp. I Heart Art is a summer camp open to teens up to age 14. Two separate week-long camps are offered that focus on the arts and music.
