Talk To The Teacher or Principal: Think Before You React: Forget About Them: Relocate: Racism Forever: Previous:Tips on Teaching Teens to Drive Next:The Effect of Parents on an Adolescent's Choice of Career
Approach your teacher or principal after class is dismissed and tell him or her about the situation. Ask if it's possible if there can be a open conversation about racism in class one day. The classroom is a safe environment to discuss this issue and many more. Open discussion like these clear up a lot of stereotypical thoughts in children's heads.
Listen and view where the remarks are coming from. Do you since Jealously? Do the kids saying the remarks have a reputation for getting in trouble with others? If these and others factors hold true then it is best to not let your emotions get the best of you. If something turns physical perhaps you could get hurt or hurt someone else. Remember racism births from ignorance, don't fall victim to it. Compose yourself!
One of the biggest killer to any problem is silence. With silence it's possible you can transform the problem solvers into individuals who no longer pursue you. Be yourself in this situation, don't let friends or loved ones push you to act out. If you have to go another way to avoid confrontation, that's fine. The goal is not to undertake any of the negativity that comes your way.
I know for some children this is not a option, but for those it is, talk to your guardian about it. Have them thoroughly check the situation out and if all holds true, then possibly they can have you settled elsewhere. This is a better approach than allowing a situation to escalate and something tragic happen. This move doesn't mean you won't meet racism anymore, but its a fresh start that can be healthy to you and others around you.
Racism has remained widespread all over the world for years. Unfortunately it will remain long after we are gone. Are best shot to eradicate it is to educate our children. That starts right in the homes and the classrooms. With a joint effort the monster racism can be kindled and controlled.
