How Can Parents Drug Test Their Children in Their Home?
Rather than risking a child's health, status at school or relationship to the police, parents can step in and monitor their kids' drug and alcohol intake at home. If you believe your child is abusing illegal substances or alcohol, you can drug test him at home without the high cost of a doctor or the risks of calling the police. Drug testing your child shows him that you won't tolerate substance abuse and that you care about his well-being.
Things You'll Need
- Home drug test kit
Instructions
Talk to your children about the dangers of substance abuse frequently. Make sure they know the dangers and risks, both to their health and also to their futures. Purchase a home drug testing kit at your neighborhood drugstore or pharmacy. There are numerous tests that can detect various substances, including alcohol, marijuana and other illegal drugs. Submit your child to a drug test without warning. Most drug tests require a urine sample. You or your spouse should watch the child give the sample to make sure there is no deception. If you announce the test ahead of time, your child may be able to clean her system out or get around the test. Give your child a chance to admit to taking drugs before you examine the test results. This is a shot at redemption and openness. When you look at the results, you can discuss what happened and what your child will do to stay away from drugs. Explain to your child that you will, if necessary, give him drug tests again, at random. Tell him that you want him to live cleanly, healthily and as a law-abiding citizen. Knowing that there is a possibility of another test will encourage him to abstain from drugs and alcohol. Consult a doctor or licensed mental health professional about your child's problems if you cannot control her. The doctor can help determine the extent of the problem after discussion and testing.
