Running Clubs for Teens in Clearwater, Florida

When teens enjoy running, whether competitively or just for the exercise factor, a running club offers motivation, training and camaraderie with others having a similar interest. Running clubs offer support and encouragement for runners of all skill levels. So, whether your teen is into competition, marathon running, occasional running events or is just getting started, he can find a group to fit his needs in Clearwater, Florida.

  1. Training

    • Teens interested in competition might find sufficient support through high school track programs. However, Clearwater offers running clubs with programs that focus on training for local and regional AAU meets that lead to qualifying for the National Junior Olympics. 727 Track Club provides coaching for premier track and field athletes to help them achieve their highest potential. Blazin Ravenz is a nonprofit organization that also offers training for athletes in the greater Clearwater area. Their goals of encouraging self-confidence and developing social skills are achieved through friendly competition with top student athletes. Students on the high school track team can participate in practice sessions with Blazin Ravenz for training purposes but might only participate in a limited number of track meets outside of school within the limits set by the Florida High School Athletic Association.

    Marathon Running

    • Long-distance running offers its own set of challenges. Teens interested in developing these skills can train with long-distance runners of all ages on the Sunshine Running Team. The club meets once a week at Clearwater High School for a group run. The Sunshine Running Team also offers a marathon training program for beginners know as the Marathon Mules.

    Group Runs

    • Teens are welcome to participate in the West Florida Y Runners Club. The nonprofit organization promotes running, walking and overall fitness for all ages. The club does not provide coaching but has group runs and workouts at Clearwater High School and other sites around the city. The club sponsors three races a year and offers discounts on races for all club members. Scholarships are given to high school members who demonstrate outstanding athletic performance and good study habits.

    Middle School Teens

    • The Florida Youth Running Association is a statewide organization that promotes and supports running programs for middle school students throughout Florida, including Clearwater. The goal of the organization is to inspire middle school youths to become involved in running with the hope that they will continue running in high school in either cross country or track events. Competitions for middle school students are throughout the state.
