Ideas for a Butterfly Nursery

Bedding

• The first things for a baby̵7;s nursery that new parents usually look for is bedding. The bedding includes the sheets, blankets, and bumpers. Bumpers are the plush bands that go around the crib to keep the baby from hitting her head. Butterflies, luckily, are a popular theme for little girls. You can find many butterfly bedding sets online and in baby supply stores. If you prefer, you could choose solid colored sheets and bumpers and make your own blankets out of material you purchase at a craft store. You will be able to find lots of butterfly-patterned fabrics and blanket patterns there to help you.

Walls

• Paint the nursery walls a solid color that either matches or complements the bedding you have chosen. For a slightly more unique look, paint stripes of alternating complementary colors. Another ideas is to paint the room a solid color and then paint butterflies on the wall. To do this, wait until the solid color dries, then use white chalk to draw the outline of the butterflies. Fill in with acrylic paints. Once the acrylic paints have dried, use a damp sponge to wipe away any remaining chalk. More artistic parents can paint a garden mural featuring lots of butterflies flying around. For a more realistic touch, paint a white-picket fence around the room.

Finishing Touches

• Purchase butterfly decals and place them on the dresser or crib or use a stencil and paint on butterflies. At the craft store buy wooden butterflies or flowers to place under knobs on dressers; paint them to match your décor. Finish up with butterfly nightlights or a rug to match the room. Another idea: Frame prints of butterflies and place them on the walls or on top of the dresser.
