How to Make Unusual Diaper Cakes
Diaper cakes are a way of giving new moms items they need presented the shape of a cake. Such cakes can include any number of items such as lotion and other baby bath products, toys, towels, blankets and food, which are usually attached to the diapers via large ribbons. Diaper cakes can be purchased through assorted baby product sites, or you can build your own. You can try building an eco-friendly diaper cake or create a cake made with unusual baby toys.
Things You'll Need

Instructions
Eco-Friendly Diaper Cake
Purchase organic disposable diapers, cloth diapers, or both. Look for diapers in varying sizes as babies outgrow diapers quickly. You can also order do-it-yourself (DIY) diaper cakes from baby product sites. Buy eco-friendly baby care products to include with the cake, such as organic cotton onesies and baby blankets, natural rubber baby bath toys, organic baby shampoo, soap and diaper wipes. You can make your own plush toys to include with the cake if you have the skill and resources, or purchase plush toys from environmental organizations, the proceeds of which generally benefit the organization's conservation efforts. Purchasing organic cotton plush toys dyed with vegetable dye is also an option. Refer to a picture of a diaper cake, if necessary, to see how to best stack the diapers. Start with the largest diapers on the bottom, and work your way up so the smallest diapers are at the top of the cake. Use large ribbons to attach various items (pacifiers, wash cloths, and teething toys are some examples) where desired around each diaper tier. Add a note card to complete the diaper cake. Unconventional Toy Diaper Cake
Purchase a DIY diaper cake from a baby product site or buy diapers in assorted sizes to build the cake yourself. If this is not an eco-friendly cake, you can use any disposable diapers. Look for unconventional and unusual toys to attach to the cake, such as "punk" rubber duckies with mohawks and leather jackets, "ugly" dolls and sock monkeys, and alphabet learning carpets and wooden toys from European countries. Handmade toys are also an option. Build the diaper cake and use methods other than ribbon to secure the items to the cake, such as macrame or yarn. You may choose to put the cake in a small toy wagon or on a large platter that the parents can reuse. You could even put it in a baby seat.
