Pregnancy With Morning Sickness
-
Generally, morning sickness accompanies a healthy pregnancy. The American Pregnancy Association reports that more than 50 percent of pregnant women feel nauseated during the first trimester. Some pregnant women may have morning sickness for their entire pregnancy. Although scientists don't know why women experience morning sickness, it usually occurs when the body is producing the human chorionic gonadotropin -- or hCG, hormone, according to the Mayo Clinic. A woman begins to produce the hCG hormone when a fertilized egg attaches to the lining of her uterus. Often, morning sickness accompanied by vomiting is normal, but in some instances it is not. Extreme nausea and vomiting may be symptoms of hyperemesis gravidarum, which is a severe form of morning sickness that requires medications and intravenous fluids.

Even with the production of hCG or other pregnancy-related hormones, a pregnant woman might not experience some symptoms associated with early pregnancy. Speak with your doctor if you have any concerns.
