Normal Weight Gain in Pregnancy
During pregnancy, gaining weight is normal and expected for the growth and development of your baby. According to the Mayo Clinic though, every woman and each pregnancy is different and how much weight you should gain depends on several factors.

Normal Weight

For those with a normal pre-pregnancy weight, a 25 to 35 pound weight gain in pregnancy is considered normal.
Overweight

Overweight women should not try to lose weight during pregnancy, according to the Mayo Clinic. They recommend a weight gain of between 11 to 25 pounds, depending on how overweight they were pre-pregnancy.
Underweight

For underweight pregnant women, a reasonable amount of weight gain in pregnancy is essential, especially in the second and third trimesters, to avoid a possible preterm delivery. A recommended weight gain is 28 to 40 pounds.
Multiple Pregnancies

For women carrying twins or triplets, a more than normal weight gain is expected. Consult your health care provider for an individual weight gain assessment.
