How long does a newborn baby sleep?

Newborn babies sleep a LOT, around 14 to 17 hours a day, sometimes even more! However, this sleep is broken up into many short naps throughout the day and night.

Here's a breakdown:

* Daytime: Newborns will often take naps that last 30 minutes to 3 hours.

* Nighttime: They may sleep for longer stretches of 3-5 hours at a time.

Important Notes:

* Sleep patterns vary: Every baby is different, so some may sleep more or less than others.

* Sleep cycles change: As babies grow, their sleep patterns will change, and they will start sleeping for longer periods at night.

* Wake windows: Babies also need to be awake for a certain amount of time each day, called wake windows, to learn and develop. These wake windows will increase as they get older.

If you're concerned about your newborn's sleep, consult your pediatrician. They can help you understand your baby's individual needs and provide advice on how to promote healthy sleep habits.
