How to Make a Height Chart

Though the simplest form of height chart may be nailing a yard stick to the wall, you may prefer to make a height chart that coordinates with the decor in your child's bedroom. This type of measurement system is still very simple to construct, but it will be a cute keepsake for you and your child for years to come.

Things You'll Need

  • Premade table runner
  • Hot glue gun
  • Hot glue sticks
  • Measuring tape
  • Fabric pens
  • Wooden dowel
  • Cord
  • Appliqués

Instructions

    • 1

Fold over one end of the table runner and glue it in place using the hot glue gun. Leave a channel in the folded end that will accommodate the wooden dowel.

    • 2

Lay the measuring tape along the edge of the table runner and mark the inches and feet using your fabric pens. You may want the bottom edge of the height chart to begin at the 1-foot mark to allow more space for growth.

    • 3

Slide the wooden dowel into its channel at the top of the chart.

    • 4

Tie the cord onto both ends of the dowel to make a hanger for the chart.

    • 5

Glue any decorative appliqués to the height chart that you want to use.

    • 6

Hang the height chart on the wall, leaving 1 foot of space between the lowest mark on the chart and the floor.
