Parent Involvement Activities
If you strive for a close bond and good deal of involvement in your child's life, you are not alone. Many parents realize the importance of being involved in their children's lives, but may not necessarily know how to go about it. One strategy is to choose activities the whole family can be included in rather than activities one member participates in alone. By taking the time to plan activities in which everyone can partake and have fun, you will naturally find yourself more involved in your child's life.

Parent-Child Dance
-
A great way of getting involved is to plan an event that brings you together. A father/daughter and mother/son dance is a suitable option. Get together with other parents in your community or at your child's school and plan for an evening. You could either do this dance as one event or plan two separate occasions. A wonderful benefit of this kind of event is that your children will see their friends hanging out with their parents, which may make the concept of spending time with mom and dad more acceptable.
Sports
-
Sports provide a great opportunity for involvement in your child's life. If she participates in a sport you know well, sign up to work as the team coach or assistant coach. If the coaching spot is filled, make sure you attend your child's games and practice. Offer to practice at home on evenings and weekends. Your child will surely appreciate the fact that you are taking interest in the things he enjoys and you will get a whole lot of quality time with him.
Volunteer
-
Schools can always use a helping hand from parents and being present during the school day may draw you closer to your son and daughter as well as their friends. Sign up as a chaperone for school trips and be on hand to help out for special events such as parties and field day. Your child will no doubt feel special because her parent is there for her.
Family Night
-
Plan a weekly family night for you and your children. Set aside one night a week for everyone to have dinner together, play games, watch a movie or talk. You may be surprised what you learn about your child when you set aside an allotted amount of time to spend with him.
