Assembly Instructions for a Crib

Preparation

• Read instructions before assembly and re-read throughout the assembly process. Each brand and model includes a special set of instructions, as well as important warnings that need read and considered during assembly. Regardless of the brand, make or model, all will specify the instructions should be read

Parts

• Before you begin to assemble the crib, you should check the included parts with the owner̵7;s manual or manufacturer̵7;s instructions. All makes and models will specify this as a necessary step. If all parts are not included or intact, replacement parts should be ordered before assembly is continued.

Tools

• Though the parts and attachment pieces you need to assemble the crib will be included, you may still need a few basic tools to assemble your infant̵7;s crib. Screwdrivers of different sizes and types and drills and drill bits may be necessary for assembling the crib and attaching the pieces of the crib to one another.

Assembly Location

• Assemble a new crib while sitting inside the nursery. After assembly the crib will be harder to move, and may even be too wide to fit through doorways in your home. Assemble the crib inside the nursery and you will not have to worry with this problem or possible dis-assembly and reassembly. With used cribs, purchase or obtained pre-assembled cribs that were assembled using the original instructions; this ensures the crib is properly assembled, and makes reassembling easier if it must be done to fit a crib through a door way.

Safety Checks

• Check pieces for safety as pieces are assembled. Tighten screws and bolts to prevent loosening and check attachment spots for wobbliness, sharp edges and rough spots. Make sure the crib mattress is properly secured to prevent an infant from entrapment hazards.

Additional Tips

• Assemble the crib long before the expected arrival date of the infant; this will ensure the crib is properly assembled and all missing or broken parts are replaced before the crib must be used.
