Fun Outdoor Games for Adults & Kids

As a winter melts away into warmer weather, people start heading outdoors. The warm season is a great time for block parties, family reunions and other get-togethers that include adults and children. There are many indoor outdoor games for adults and kids to play together in the water and on land so gather your family and head outdoors for some fun and games.

  1. Swimming Races

    • Have some fun in the water the next time you head to the beach. You could do this by having some races in the water. To make things fair, you can give adults a handicap. For example, in a swimming race, a child can do any stroke they want, but the adult must doggie paddle. You can have your races running or skipping in the water or on the beach where a child can run, but a parent must hop.

    Scavenger Hunt

    • Split up into teams for an outdoor scavenger hunt. Each team is given an identical list of items that they must obtain within a certain period of time. Arrange to meet at a particular time, and whoever has the most items on the list, wins. You could have children and adults on the same team, or split the seat teams so that it is adults against children. The list could contain items such as a leaf from a particular type of tree, a digital photograph of the team with a particular family member or a specific type of borrowed canned good from someone in the neighborhood.

    Balloon Toss

    • Fill some water balloons with water and set up your teams. There should be two members on each team, and each team should get one balloon. Have everyone stand in two parallel lines with team members facing each other. Hand the water balloons from one team member to the other. Everybody then takes one step backward, away from each other and repeats the hand-off. Every time the balloon is passed without dropping, the team members take one step away from each other. Soon they will have to toss it to each other. If a balloon hits the ground and breaks, that team is disqualified. The last team standing wins.
