How to Look Up Names by Their Meanings
Given names have a wide variety of different meanings. Some are derived from specific personality traits. The name "Fido" for example, comes from the latin word for "faithful." Some are named after professions, such as George, which means "farmer." Others refer to physical traits or have meanings in foreign languages. There are several different websites which catalog thousands of different names and their meanings.

Finding names by meaning
Decide what meaning you want to search for. Personality traits are a good place to start. We'll use "honest" as our example. Open your web browser. Go to a name website. You can either enter "baby names" or "name meanings" into a search engine, or use one of the websites in the resources section. For our example we will use behindthename.com. Choose the search option "search for words in meaning" and type the meaning you're looking for. Read through the results for a fuller explanation of the meaning or multiple meanings of the names. Some will also have information on the history of the name. The language or country of origin will also be given. For example, a search for "honest" comes up with the names Adil, Atsuko, Naoki, Naomi, Nazih, Shi and Tom.
