How to Make Bathtime Fun

Kids and water make a good combination for play activities. However, many kids who enjoy waterplay may resist bathtime, particularly when it is all business. Although busy schedules don̵7;t always allow for a long play time in the tub, adding some fun and creativity to bathtime helps kids look forward to getting clean.

Things You'll Need

  • Tub toys
  • Craft foam
  • Mesh bag
  • Fizzy tub tablets
  • Tub crayons
  • Tub paints
  • Paint brushes
  • Epsom salts
  • Food coloring
  • Shave cream
  • Scented soap and shampoo
  • Washcloth puppets
  • Shatter-proof mirror
  • Bubble bath
  • Plastic utensils

Instructions

  1. Let the Fun Begin

    • 1

Toss a few tub toys in the water, such as plastic wind-up boats and animals.

    • 2

Cut shapes from craft foam. The foam will adhere to the sides of the tub when wet, allowing kids to create scenes for creative bathtime fun.

    • 3

Store the toys and foam shapes in a mesh bag that you can hang over the tub faucet to allow the toys to dry out between baths.

    • 4

Surprise your child with a different color bath water each night using colored fizzy tablets.

    Color My World

    • 5

Provide an assortment of bathtub crayons and tub paints for your budding artist. Allow your child to paint the sides of the tub using the paints and paint brushes. Paints designed for tub use will not stain the tub.

    • 6

Make colored bath salts to add to the tub water. Place epsom salts in a plastic container. Add a few drops of food coloring and stir the salts to distribute the color. Spread the bath salts out to dry. Add a spoonful to the bath water. As they dissolve, the salts will color the water. The coloring will not stain your child or the tub if you use only a drop or two when coloring the salts.

    • 7

      Add a drop of food coloring to a squirt of shave cream. Give your child a paint brush to paint the sides of the tub with the thick colored ̶0;paint.̶1;

    Getting Down to Business

    • 8

Use kid-friendly scented soaps and shampoos to make getting clean fun for kids. Use washcloth puppets to bathe your child instead of standard wash cloths.

    • 9

Create fancy hairdos from soapy hair. Keep a shatter-proof mirror close by so your child can see the results.

    • 10

Add bubble bath to the water. Give your child small plastic cups and utensils to play in the bubbles while getting clean in the process.
