Boot Camps for Troubled Teens in Indiana
During the rebellious teenage years, it's common for teens to lash out or engage in dangerous behavior. Sometimes this is normal, but it can also be a warning sign or even a cry for help. And when teens grapple with serious emotional or mental difficulties, they can go too far. When that happens, they might benefit from time in a boot camp or correctional facility. In Indiana, correctional facilities for troubled teens aim to help them overcome their problems.

South Bend Juvenile Correctional Facility
-
South Bend Juvenile Correctional Facility can house up to 112 male students ages 12 to 18. The facility houses students younger than 15 separately, and it offers five segregation cells for students who need to be separated from the general population.
This facility focuses on care and treatment of its students, including one-on-one counseling, interventions and case management. Its programs are designed to teach students the social skills and self-respect they need to become functional, law-abiding adults.
South Bend also offers an academic program so students can continue their education, with a junior/senior high school, a GED program and vocational learning opportunities.
Madison Juvenile Correctional Facility
-
Madison Juvenile Correctional Facility is a maximum-security option for troubled teen girls, and it is Indiana's only female correctional facility. The facility accommodates up to 167 students at a time, with both campus-style housing and maximum-security housing for students who cannot behave around others.
Madison offers a variety of rehabilitative programs for its students, including programs in anger management, how to form healthy relationships with those around them, how to avoid addictive or criminal thinking, substance-abuse treatment and relapse prevention, female empowerment and employability skills so they can go on to functional positions in society.
Camp Summit Boot Camp
-
Camp Summit, located in Northern Indiana, is the state's only true military-style boot camp. The program lasts 6 1/2 months and can accommodate up to 90 teens at a time. The camp is designed for males who are considered delinquent by an Indiana court of law and have committed offenses but are healthy and do not require psychotropic medication.
The program balances military-style drills and physical training with an accredited academic program, counseling programs for individuals, groups and families, as well as substance-abuse counseling and anger management.
