How to Clean Mold on Children's Bath Toys
Children̵7;s bath toys typically stay in the bathroom, and with the high humidity and dampness in the room, they become the perfect breeding grounds for mold. Not only does mold look gross, it can actually be hazardous to your child̵7;s health, especially if your child suffers from allergies or asthma. Even in healthy children, mold can cause symptoms like sneezing, stuffy nose and watery eyes. And since your child̵7;s bath toys might end up in their mouth, it̵7;s important to clean them thoroughly at the first sign of mold growth.
Things You'll Need
- Rags
- Bucket
- 1 cup white vinegar
- ¾ cup chlorine bleach
Instructions
Dry off the toys with a rag to remove as much moisture as possible. If the toy is a squeezing toy that sucks in water, squeeze the toy to release the water from inside the toy. Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of warm water. Add 1 cup of white vinegar. Put the bath toys in the vinegar solution to soak overnight. For squeeze toys, fill the inside of the toy with the vinegar solution to soak overnight. Discard the water the next day. Dry the toys thoroughly with a rag before returning them to the bathtub. You could also let them dry outside on a sunny day -- to help ensure they fully dry on the inside of the toy. Mix 1 gallon of warm water and ¾-cup of chlorine bleach if the mold is still present. Soak the toys for about five minutes to remove the mold. Fill squeeze toys with the bleach solution and soak for five minutes. Discard the bleach water, rinse well with hot water and dry the bath toys thoroughly.
