How to Plan a Kids Movie Night
Taking your kids to the movie theater is fun, but can be quite expensive by the time you add up the cost of purchasing the tickets, sodas and snacks for each family member. Instead, consider hosting a family movie night in your home for the kids. You can watch the movie with your children as a family, or invite other kids from the neighborhood.

Instructions
Select a kid-friendly DVD for movie night. Disney movies are always a good choice. If your children are older, you may want to offer them a list of five movies (that you have approved) to choose from. Create a theme based on the movie that was selected. For example, if you plan on watching The Lion King, you'll want your movie night theme to be based on animals found in the pride lands of Africa. Older children may select something like one of the Percy Jackson movies, which lends itself to the theme of Greek mythology. Pick a date for the movie night and create invitations that double as movie tickets. Hand the tickets out to everyone in the family or to the neighborhood kids that you want to invite to movie night. Make sure the guests know to bring their movie tickets with them to gain entry into your home theater. Prepare a few snacks based on the movie night's theme. Serve chocolate gold coins when watching Pirates of the Caribbean or apple slices when watching Snow White. Of course, movie staples like popcorn and soda go well with any movie. Add a few crafts and activities for the kids to complete before the movie begins. Again, these should follow the theme of the movie night. Kids can make lightsabers from pool noodles when watching Star Wars or make clay models of deer and rabbits before a screening of Bambi. Play the movie for the children and then hold a discussion afterward to critique the movie. Younger children can simply give a thumbs up or thumbs down. Older children can give a more in-depth review. This encourages kids' thinking and analytical skills, while providing a conclusion to the movie night.
