Caregiver Ratios

According to New York State law, home daycare centers are limited to the number of children cared for by one person. Each caregiver is allowed to be in charge of six children if they're not school aged. However, if children younger than two-years-old are present, a caregiver may care for no more than five children.
Daycare Registration
-
If you run a home-based daycare, you must be registered with New York State if you care for children for more than three hours a day. The registration office requires daycare owners to take an orientation class and complete an application including health exam forms for everyone over the age of 18 who works at the daycare, a child abuse clearance form and proof of attendance at an orientation session.
